Akpom was well-positioned for a headed attempt at goal late on in the first half, but with the Ryan Giles cross just slightly high for him, he couldn't direct it nor get any power behind it to beat Griffiths. Marcus Forss came closest when he volleyed a loose ball at goal from just inside the area only to thwarted by a solid diving save from Josh Griffiths. This was a West Brom side who had conceded just one goal in their last seven home games, and that was a direct free-kick. They worked it well to the edge of the box and created some gaps as they moved it quickly across the edge of the box from flank to flank, but the openings just weren't quite coming.
